Romeo & Juliet

ACT V, Scene ii
Act V, Scene ii: Verona. Friar Laurence's cell. Enter FRIAR JOHN.
FRAIR JOHN
  Holy Franciscan friar! Brother, hello!
Enter FRIAR LAURENCE.
FRIAR LAURENCE
That voice should be Friar John's.
Welcome back from Mantua. What did Romeo say?
Or if he wrote, give me his letter.
FRIAR JOHN
I went to find another friar
from our order to accompany me.
He was here in the city visiting the sick.
I found him, but the health officials of the town,
suspecting that we both were in a house
where plague victims lived,
sealed the doors and would not let us leave.
So, my journey to Mantua to see Romeo was stopped.
FRIAR LAURENCE
Who took my letter to Romeo, then?
FRIAR JOHN
I couldn't send it. Here it is.
I couldn't find a messenger to bring it to you
because they were so afraid of the plague.
FRIAR LAURENCE
  Unhappy fate! By the Franciscans,
this was not just a trivial letter, but one full of news
of great importance. Failure to deliver it
could do much damage. Friar John, go and
get me a crowbar and bring it here right away
to my cell.
FRIAR JOHN
Brother, I'll go get it and bring it to you.
He exits.
FRIAR LAURENCE
Now I must go to the tomb alone.
Within three hours, beautiful Juliet will awake.
She'll blame me that Romeo
hasn't been told about what's going on.
But I'll write another letter to Mantua
and keep her at my cell until Romeo comes.
Poor living body, shut up in a dead man's tomb!
He exits.
